What is #GivingTuesday?
A social media movement founded in 2012 by 92nd Street Y (92Y) and the United Nations Foundation, #GivingTuesday follows Black Friday, small business Saturday, and Cyber Monday with the promotion of charitable giving at the start of the holiday season.
1- #GivingTuesday defines itself as a “global day dedicated to giving back”
2- That annually falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
In a very short period, #GivingTuesday has gained mass awareness and participation through popular social media/networking venues such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Reflecting the event’s embeddedness in the social media landscape, the Twitter hashtag is part of #GivingTuesday’s official name. As a result of the movement’s social media efforts, this national day of giving sees strong growth in participation each year.
How can you support NEKYS on #GivingTuesday?
Like small business Saturday, you have the option to support a local non-profit. Every year NEKYS supports youth, their families, and the community through it innovative programs. These programs operate frequently on the generous donations of our community. Donating to NEKYS on #GivingTuesday as opposed to a larger national cause keeps the money in our community making a strong local impact.
1- Go to www.nekys.org/givingtuesday/ to make your donation of any amount
2- Share your support for NEKYS on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #GivingTuesday, #NEKYS, @NortheastKingdomYouthServices
3- Encourage and challenge your social media contacts to donate to NEKYS as well to help us reach our goal to support youth, their families and our community.
