Family Connections

The Family Connections staff is available 24 hours a day to support families through periods of crisis and conflict
We provide a variety of services based on individual assessments. Services span a continuum from prevention to reparation and include the following:
Ø 24-hour/7 days a week crisis intervention services
Ø Supportive counseling for youth to develop healthy coping skills
Ø Supportive counseling for parents to develop effective strategies to nurture the changing needs of their adolescent children
Ø Mentoring youth who have a need for positive role models
Ø Support can be provided within the home or NEKYS office
Ø Advocacy for youth and families within their school and community
Ø Providing support for youth and families to connect with other services and resources in the community
Ø In extreme cases of family crisis, we may facilitate short-term emergency respite for youth
Ø Family Mediation: The mediation process encourages both the youth and parent/guardian to listen to each other’s point of view. A facilitator takes a neutral role in helping families identify underlying needs that may be the cause of conflict in the home. These families learn problem-solving skills and develop plans designed to keep future conflicts from reaching a crisis.
Ø Groups: Several times a year, depending on our capacity and the needs of clients, Family Connections staff will facilitate supportive group counseling programs for youth and/or parents. Group dynamics can sometimes greatly enhance the education and skill-building components of healthy relationships within families.
