Jump Mentoring Program

In 2012, the JUMP Mentoring Program's goal is to match 25 students with dedicated adult mentors that will meet with them once a week in the local schools. Our local schools include; St. Johnsbury School, Lyndon Town School and Millers Run.

JUMP matches caring and committed adults with youth entering 1st - 8th grade, establishing supportive and guiding relationships that result in improved academic performance and positive life choices.

JUMP serves at-risk youth entering 1st through 8th grades.*

JUMP’s volunteer mentors commit to meet with their mentees one hour per week for the school year.

JUMP is primarily a school-based* mentoring program.

Mentors and their mentees share activities together such as:

  • Working on projects
  • Talking
  • Shooting hoops
  • Playing games
      • Exploring computer resources
      • Eating lunch
      • Hanging out

*JUMP oversees a school-based program for older students, as well as, a limited community-based youth mentoring program.

Changing lives, one relationship at a time.

JUMP’s goals are:

    • To provide each youth with a caring, trained adult community member
    • To increase each youth’s participation in school
    • To promote academic success and achievement
    • To reduce the number of youth who engage in the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs

“The single greatest factor in helping a child avoid delinquent behavior is a strong, caring relationship with an adult.”  Deborah Daniel, Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs

“Knowing that my mentor is here because she wants to be and not because she has to be, or is being paid to be, makes me feel very special.”  -  JUMPer

“While my intention was to give, I have received much more than I ever anticipated.”  - Mentor
