Fostering healthy habits in Northeast Kingdom youth and their families.
NEK Kids on the Move programs are primarily offered through existing after-school programs which are accessible to all school-aged children in the community. We aim to make school counselors, nurses and area health providers aware of NEK Kids on the Move programs so they may recommend them to children.
NEK Kids on the Move:
- Collaborates with the Grow Your Own Program, a partnership of the Hardwick Area Food Pantry and the Center for Agricultural Economy. The program offers nutrition and cooking/food storage workshops to community members specifically targeting low-income residents of the greater Hardwick area. The goal is to increase food independence, and improve health through shared knowledge and experience. Information on monthly Grow Your Own Programs can be found by calling Bethany at 802-472-5362.
- Awards mini-grants to area after-school programs and organizations of up to $2000 for the school year to use towards running a NEK Kids on the Move program.
- Is made possible through the generous support of Northern Counties Health Care, The Vermont Community Foundation, The Jane B Cook 1992 Trust, The Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation, Concept 2, The Wisdom Connection, The Pleasants Fund, Ben & Jerry’s Foundation and Union Bank.
- Programming and Community Partners include OSSU REACH!, Wonder & Wisdom, The Art House in Craftsbury, The Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Hosmer Point.
