NEKYS Outdoor Adventure Programs provide at-risk youth, ages 12-17, outdoor adventure programming. The goal of the program is to increase youth’s resiliency and decrease risk factors contributing to drug and alcohol use, suicide, school dropout, teen pregnancy, and violence.
NEKYS Outdoor Adventure Programs:
- Offers a school-based adventure group each school semester at the Hazen School in Hardwick, Vermont. The group specifically serves youth in the underserved communities of Hardwick, Walden, Woodbury, Wolcott, Craftsbury and Greensboro, Vermont.
- Operate a summer-based adventure group for 6 weeks in the summer. The summer group serves youth in Caledonia County, Vermont.
- Conducts outdoor activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, swimming, mountain trekking, survival skills and shelter building.
- Facilitates group sessions focusing on a variety of topics such as group dynamics, self-esteem, anger management, conflict resolution, substance abuse and/or dealing with trauma.
