NEKYS News, Grant Award
JUMP MENTORING PROGRAM

Northeast Kingdom Youth Services (NEKYS) received a $4,500 grant from the Mobius Vermont Mentoring Partnership, to support the JUMP Mentoring Program. Mobius awarded 27 grants, totaling $327,715, to support adult-to-youth mentoring programs throughout the state. The JUMP Mentoring Program works with at-risk youth (1st – 8th grade) from area elementary schools. Each mentee is matched with a trained adult mentor for one hour per week during the school year.

“JUMP is pleased to receive the grant for our program,” said Sarah Sanville, coordinator of the JUMP Mentoring Program. “As always, we struggle with finding new mentors and because of this funding now available, we will be able to put more time and creative energy into recruitment efforts.  There is always a waiting list at our local schools of children who are in need of a mentor and JUMP hopes to be able to find people in our community who would like to become mentors so we can begin crossing those children off of a waiting list and start their mentor/mentee relationship.”

About Mobius: Now in its third year as Vermont’s Mentoring Partnership, Mobius supports more than 140 adult-to-youth mentoring program sites that serve 2,300 mentor pairs throughout the state.
