The Living Room

The Living Room

The Living Room works with homeless and at-risk youth between the ages of 15 to 21 to meet basic needs, provide support and resources, and to develop valuable life skills.   We believe that providing a safe, comfortable space for homeless and at-risk youth, along with consistent support, will assist youth in reaching their greatest degree of self-sufficiency and their fullest potential.

Helping youth to help themselves

The Living Room is a supervised day shelter/teen center available to area youth.  We offer a safe and friendly space where youth can get support from peers and caring adults, a kitchen to prepare meals, a washer/dryer, a shower, computers with internet access, and use of a phone.

Other on-site services may include job search assistance, GED counseling and testing, meal preparation and nutritional needs information, substance abuse education, conflict resolution training, and health-related information.

The Living Room also has a pool table, a foosball table, Play Station, stereo and VCR!  Special activities include Pool Tournaments, Living Room Council, and various other events. Youth can enjoy many recreational activities at The Living Room.

Youth express their ideas at The Living Room

“Be yourself — It’s the greatest thing anyone can do.  For if everyone were made of plastic and silicon, or any other faux substance, the world would be a boring place!” — JH

“Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.” — Anonymous

“Courage is discovery that you may not win, and trying when you know you can lose.  Life isn’t about living without problems, life is learning to solve them.” — JD

“The principles you live by create the world you live in; if you change the principles you live by, you will change your world.”                — Blaine Lee

Referrals are available for Northeast Kingdom Youth Services and Transitional Living Programs, as well as other area agencies.
