Getting Help Through NEKYS Housing Services

Northeast Kingdom Youth Services (NEKYS) works with youth, young adults, adults, and families who are experiencing housing instability or homelessness. We know that asking for help can feel overwhelming. Our goal is to make the first step as clear, respectful, and supportive as possible.

What to Expect

When you contact NEKYS, staff may ask some basic questions to better understand your situation and what kind of help you may need. This may include questions about your current housing situation, age, household members, safety concerns, income or benefits, and other supports you are connected to.

We ask only for information needed to understand eligibility, provide support, make referrals, and meet program requirements. Your information is handled with care and privacy.

Services may vary depending on eligibility, program openings, funding, and community resources.

Fair Access to Services

NEKYS provides fair access to housing and support services.

NEKYS does not discriminate in outreach, intake, eligibility, housing placement, services, referrals, or termination of assistance based on race; color; religion or religious creed; national origin or place of birth; sex; disability; familial status or having minor children; marital status; age; sexual orientation; gender identity; receipt of public assistance; citizenship; immigration status; or being the victim of abuse, sexual assault, or stalking, also referred to as crime victim status.

Everyone is treated with dignity, respect, and care.

Reasonable Accommodation Requests

You may ask for a reasonable accommodation if you need a change, adjustment, or support because of a disability.

A reasonable accommodation may include help with communication, changes to a process, support completing forms, or another adjustment that helps you access NEKYS services.

You do not need to use special words to ask for an accommodation. You can simply tell NEKYS staff what you need, and we will help connect your request to the right person for review.

Language Assistance and Interpretation

If you need help understanding information because of language, please tell us.

NEKYS will make reasonable efforts to provide interpretation, translation, or other communication support so you can understand available services and how to access them.

You may also ask for help reading or understanding forms, notices, or program information.

Safety, Privacy, and Respect

NEKYS works to provide services in a way that protects your privacy and supports your safety. We will not share your personal information unless you give permission, the law requires it, or NEKYS policy allows it for safety or program reasons.

If you have a safety concern, including domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or threats from another person, you may tell NEKYS staff. We will respond as respectfully and privately as possible and can help connect you with support.

NEKYS will not retaliate against anyone for asking for help, requesting accommodation, requesting language assistance, or raising a concern.
